About Me
Hi! My name is Kathryn. I’m so glad you’re here.
I am a Perinatal Mental Health Therapist serving clients in person and virtually across NC.
I specialize in the Perinatal - from the fertility journey, to pregnancy, postpartum, and the early years of parenthood. I focus on Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, including Postpartum Depression, Postpartum Anxiety, Postpartum PTSD, and Postpartum OCD.
Clients typically find me following a difficult birth experience, or when postpartum is feeling out of control and unmanageable. It often seems that parents, and mothers especially, put themselves last - who has time or money for counseling when your child needs diapers, you’re covered in spit up, someone is crying (maybe multiple people?!) and you haven’t washed your hair in days? But I believe strongly that moms deserve support too, and maybe most of all. You can’t pour from an empty cup!
I am passionate about supporting women through their pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting journeys, whatever path that may take.
Prior to my graduate education, I provided in-home social work services to mothers and children through the Family Empowerment Program. After witnessing first hand the support that parents and families needed in our community, I decided to pursue my graduate degree. I attended UNCG’s Counseling Program, and there I focused on Couples and Family Counseling.
Following graduation, I once again worked providing counseling to mothers, families, and those who had experienced acute trauma. I have additional experience working with those experiencing grief and loss, relationship concerns, anxiety, depression, and working with families with young children.
I am Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International.
In order to obtain this certification you must complete extensive advanced training in Maternal Mental Health, have at least 2 years of experience working with perinatal clients, and are required to maintain regular continuing education. I am versed in Perinatal Mental Health, Perinatal Grief and Loss, Perinatal OCD, Perinatal Birth Trauma, and more.
I facilitate The Newborn Series with The Mom League of Greensboro, an 8 week series geared toward parents of infants age 0-12 weeks that provides support around infant feeding, postpartum mental health, managing relationships after baby, setting boundaries, navigating identity shifts, and so much more.
I have provided trainings to NICU families and staff through The Family Support Network of Central Carolina, and am a bi-monthly guest speaker through Cone Health’s Baby and Me Program for new mothers. I also provide trainings and presentations on topics such as ‘You Are Not Alone: Understanding Postpartum Mood and Finding Support’ and ‘Big Feelings, Little Kids: Supporting Emotional Growth While Staying Grounded as a Parent’ throughout the community. I help facilitate various Mother and Baby groups throughout the Triad, and am a member of Postpartum Support International as well as the Postpartum Resource Center of the Triad.
In total, I have 10+ years of experience working with postpartum mothers and families.
I am passionate about Perinatal, Prenatal, and Postpartum mental health, and wellness for all. I believe everyone deserves to feel held, seen, and cared for at their most vulnerable moments, and I am honored to provide this care for women and families of the Triad, and virtually across North Carolina.
As a mom of 3 myself, I also have lived experience with the highs and lows of motherhood.
After a difficult birth experience with my first child, I was struggling. I didn’t know how to begin to share the depth of my feelings with those closest to me, and I was ashamed to admit motherhood didn’t always match the picture I had had in my mind.
Counseling is an incredibly personal and vulnerable journey, and this is never more true than during postpartum. Finding the right counselor, especially one who has been in your shoes, is of the utmost importance.
I hope to be that person for you.
