Pregnancy, Postpartum, and Early Parenthood Counseling Services
You’re taking care of everyone around you, keeping it together, and making it look easy.
But who takes care of you?
1 in 5 individuals will experience a mood or anxiety disorder during pregnancy or postpartum.
Having a Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorder - or PMAD - is not a sign of weakness, and it’s not your fault.
Many factors contribute to whether or not someone will experience a Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorder, such as previous history of depression, anxiety, or trauma, experiencing a difficult or traumatic birth, lack of social support, and more. And, sometimes, even under the best of circumstances, postpartum depression, anxiety, or PTSD can show up. I offer personalized support and care throughout your pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood journey to help process these transformational life experiences.
With support, you can and will feel okay again. Although we can never go back to our old selves, we can learn to love who we are becoming.
How do I know I’m experiencing a Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder?
During pregnancy, there may be warning signs, such as intense feelings of anxiety or worry about the baby, feelings of sadness, or grieving your old life and the change in your relationships. And while these are anticipated and generally not cause for concern, sometimes they are predictors of potential Postpartum Depression, Postpartum Anxiety, or other Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders.
Birth is a whirlwind, and can be an intense emotional experience under the best of circumstances. You will likely feel moody, tired, and overwhelmed - all of which are totally normal and expected! However, if these feelings last more than 2 weeks postpartum, and you’re encountering any of the symptoms listed below, you may be experiencing a Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder.
Your pregnancy, postpartum, or early days of parenthood feel like an emotional rollercoaster. You’re experiencing joy mixed with stress, anxiety, and uncertainty, or even sadness you didn’t expect, and you feel like no matter what you do, you’re still not “enough.”
The changes in your body, your relationships, and your identity leave you feeling lost or disconnected from who you once were.
You're battling intrusive thoughts, mood swings, or struggling to find balance in your new role as a mother.
You feel lost, alone, or like you have to hold it together for the sake of everyone else, or so you can try to recognize pieces of who you once were.
You feel agitated with everyone and everything, and nothing seems to go right.
Things feel hopeless, and you’re afraid you’ll never feel like yourself again.
I am a Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C) therapist through Postpartum Support International (PSI). I work with individuals and couples facing postpartum and perinatal mood disorders, birth trauma, infertility struggles, relationship stress, sticky thoughts, those feeling lost in their search for their identity and understanding of self, or those feeling like they have to hold it all together and be the “perfect” wife and mother.
Therapy with me is a safe space to put down the heaviness that you have been holding alone, and let someone in who understands what it’s like to be there.
If you're feeling overwhelmed, please know you're not alone - seeking help is a brave, important step toward healing, and I’m here to walk alongside you in that journey. You don’t have to face this alone - I'm here to support you every step of the way.
