Perinatal EMDR Therapy in Greensboro & Across North Carolina
Heal the parts of your motherhood story that still feel unfinished.
Maybe it was the birth that didn't go the way you imagined.
Maybe it was months, or even years, of infertility treatments, negative pregnancy tests, and loss.
Maybe your pregnancy was filled with fear, medical complications, or the constant feeling that something terrible was about to happen.
Or maybe your baby is here now, and everyone expects you to move on, but your body and mind haven't caught up.
If your experiences still feel "stuck," Perinatal EMDR can help your brain and nervous system finally process what happened so you can move forward without carrying the same weight.
What is Perinatal EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process experiences that were too overwhelming to fully integrate at the time they happened.
Perinatal EMDR applies this approach specifically to experiences surrounding fertility, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and the transition into parenthood.
Rather than simply talking about what happened, EMDR helps your nervous system release the emotional intensity that keeps those memories feeling so present.
The goal isn't to erase your story.
It's to help your story no longer feel like it's controlling you.
You might benefit from Perinatal EMDR if...
You replay your birth over and over.
You avoid talking about your pregnancy or delivery.
You panic when thinking about becoming pregnant again.
You experienced infertility or pregnancy loss that still feels unresolved.
You had a NICU stay or frightening medical complications.
You feel intense guilt, shame, or believe your body "failed."
You struggle with intrusive memories, nightmares, or flashbacks.
You know you're safe now—but your body still acts like the danger isn't over.
Perinatal experiences that can become "stuck"
Not every difficult experience becomes trauma.
But when your brain and nervous system don't have the opportunity to fully process what happened, those memories can remain emotionally charged long after the event has ended.
Some of the experiences I commonly help clients process include:
infertility and fertility treatment
pregnancy after loss
miscarriage or stillbirth
traumatic birth
emergency C-section
birth injuries
NICU experiences
postpartum medical complications
breastfeeding trauma
pregnancy or postpartum anxiety
previous trauma that resurfaces during pregnancy or motherhood
Why work with someone trained in Perinatal EMDR?
Pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences aren't simply "regular trauma."
They happen during one of the biggest identity shifts a person can experience.
They often involve complicated emotions that exist side-by-side:
Joy and grief.
Love and fear.
Relief and disappointment.
Hope and loss.
Perinatal EMDR takes these unique experiences into account. It considers not only what happened, but how motherhood, attachment, identity, relationships, and your nervous system have all been impacted.
As a PMH-C therapist with specialized training in Perinatal EMDR, I understand the unique complexities of healing during this season of life. Together, we'll move at a pace that feels safe while helping your brain process experiences that no longer need to carry the same emotional weight.
Does EMDR mean I'll have to relive everything?
This is one of the biggest concerns I hear.
The answer is no.
EMDR isn't about forcing you to relive painful experiences or flooding you with overwhelming emotions.
We'll spend time building coping skills and making sure your nervous system feels prepared before we begin processing.
Throughout therapy, you remain in control. We move at a pace that feels manageable, and you never have to share every detail of what happened in order for EMDR to be effective.
Healing doesn't come from pushing harder.
It comes from helping your brain finally do what it couldn't do during the experience itself.
Imagine what life could feel like...
Imagine being able to tell your birth story without feeling your chest tighten.
Imagine seeing a pregnancy announcement without immediately feeling consumed by grief.
Imagine thinking about another pregnancy without panic.
Imagine remembering what happened while knowing it is truly behind you.
Your story will always matter.
It just doesn't have to hurt in the same way forever.
You don't have to carry this alone.
If your pregnancy, birth, infertility journey, or postpartum experience still feels unresolved, EMDR may be the next step toward healing.
I'd be honored to walk alongside you.
